Portrait Promenade shares Steven’s passion for portraiture with the public, inviting people to share his practice and process and celebrate their community and what makes it unique.

Taking to the street with a tripod, light meter and a medium-format camera, Steven engages the public with portrait photography. Portrait Promenade is as much about the experience as the result.

Portrait Promenade can be adapted in different ways to suit each place and community. It can be undertaken simply without an end exhibition in mind; this can be with images sent out digitally to share the results with participants or it can end in a celebratory exhibition.

This could be a simple pop-up exhibition, an exhibition co-curated with the community or a larger, more formal sharing of work. In addition, this can be complemented with workshops and further public engagement to allow the community to collaborate and further shape the direction and form of the project. Workshops can include portrait photography workshops and workshops using cyanotypes, a camera-less photographic process dating from the Victorian era.

Steven is actively seeking to take Portrait Promenade to new places, to meet new people and to capture portraits of communities that deserve celebrating.
